VOLTRON TV vs. Comic History Comparison
Note: As a comparison, this section necessarily
contains spoilers to the show and the comic.
DESTRUCTION
OF SINGLE, SENTIENT VOLTRON
TV: Haggar, sorceress to King Zarkon of the
Doom Empire (a renegade splinter group from the Drule Empire) battles Voltron,
created by Queen Ariella, first Queen of Arus.
Haggar breaks Voltron up into five robot lions, not having the power to
destroy the single robot completely.
Each one crashed into the ground and "buried itself." How each then became adapted for use by
human Pilots is still not clear.
COMIC: An ancestor of Haggar's named Sarga,
working under Empress Jain IX of the First Empire of the Drule Supremacy (King
Zarkon now rules the Ninth Kingdom).
Sarga battles Voltron who has been created by a mix of scientists and
priests. Supposedly a partially successful counter-spell was cast that
prevented Voltron's total destruction and changed the parts from just five
portions of the robot to the five mechanical robot lions; this is based on
mythological creatures from "the spell-caster's world," which may or
may not be Arus. The lions then
crash-landed and were hidden on Arus.
LOCATION
OF THE BLACK LION KEY
TV: The mice took the Black Lion Key from
King Alfor's tomb because they "thought it was pretty" and hid it in
their nest. They didn't understand the
full significance of it.
COMIC: Allura's cybernetic mice have the Black
Lion Key hidden in their cage. Exactly
why is unknown, as Allura is unable to communicate with them.
LOCATION
OF THE LION KEYS (OTHER THAN BLACK)
TV: King Alfor's tomb.
COMIC: The tomb of King Altarus, of whom little
is known, other than he is considered the "most sacred and ancient
ancestral King" of Arus, per Coran.
