VOLTRON: The Denubian Galaxy

by Shannon Muir

This starmap of the Denubian Galaxy is part series fact and partially my own contributions. The galaxy itself didn't really begin to get mapped out until the second year of shows, when each planet we were introduced to was in one of the four quadrants of the galaxy. Bear in mind that no "definitive" map of the Galaxy exists, and that any portion of it is subject to change as new information is revealed in VOLTRON: THE THIRD DIMENSION.

Any planet with an * after it are planets that I have somewhat arbitrarily placed in the Galaxy, based on facts in the series. For example, the planet Norn HAS to be in the same galaxy (not to mention the same star system!) as Arus because both planets experience the same eclipse. Or I've just placed planets places to round a star system out.  Planets I have needed to add since World Events Productions and I put together the official starmap at http://www.voltronforce.com will be indicated in GREEN typeface.

I also was the one to name most of the star systems, the only exception so far being the Diadem System as named in the V3D episode, "A Rift In The Force." The choice for jewel names for the systems came out of an error in the second episode of the Lions series, where Coran says Arus was the most beautiful planet in the DIAMOND Galaxy, when in all other episodes it is the Denubian Galaxy. I put Arus in the Diamond Star System (to make his statement half accurate) and then named all the other systems in like. Any star system with a * was named by me, the rest were established in VOLTRON: THE THIRD DIMENSION.

Someone asked recently about Phylos comet, which is the half-planet/half-comet where Count Zane is from. We know it passes Arus and Doom, has the elliptical orbit of a comet, and is the most beautiful planet in the Coral Quadrant (though Arus is CLEARLY in the Azure!). With this information in mind, Arus MUST be at the southeast corner of the Azure quadrant, with edges of Phylos' elliptical orbit grazing the Coral quadrant... and since Doom clearly is not in the same star system as Arus, likely grazes another quadrant as well (which I've chosen as the Crimson Quadrant for Planet Doom).

I have laid out the quadrants as follows:

AZURE-----------------CORAL

........................+...............................

CRIMSON-------------CERULEAN

I've never gotten into this before because it's kind of complicated AND difficult to illustrate. I hope this helps. Remember, this starmap is completely UNOFFICIAL as it is only known to be partly accurate.

Azure Quadrant Cerulean Quadrant Coral Quadrant Crimson Quadrant

Several people have written me as to why planet Balto (Pidge's home planet, destroyed in Season One) is not on the Starmap. It is my belief that since Coran tries to place them under house arrest, that Balto must technically be out of their jurisdiction... i.e. in the Near Universe, which is Vehicle Voltron's territory. I just don't buy Coran's "There's nothing you can do there. I can't let you go." at face value. I mean, Voltron is supposed to come to ANYONE's aid!  (Note: I later would put Balto in the Cerulean Quadrant after working with World Events Productions.)

Also missing is planet Acura (from FLEET OF DOOM), which is right on the border of the Near and Far Universe, because it was never clear whose jurisidction it is. Due to the great distance emphasized for the Voltron Force to travel -- and the fact they have to use the Flying Fortress to get to Planet Acura instead of flying there themselves -- Acura is clearly NOT in the Denubian Galaxy. For the same reasons, Outpost Opal from the V3D episode, "Lost Souls," is missing since I can't be sure of its exact location; we do know it's at the edge of the galaxy but that's it.

Any other missing planets are an oversight. Please let me know about those.

I've also worked with Mea on her V4: Past, Present, and Future site for her to incorporate this as a section of her starmap with ALSO includes fan-fiction worlds. It seemed a logical thing to do, to give fans a starting base combined with their own dreams and visions to create a richer universe. It's a partnership I'm proud of.
